I took this as an elective in 2024 sem 1 with prof Peh Li Qi. While I’m from spms, I did took H2 lit in jc but there was a ~2 years gap from my A lvl’s to this mod. While I think this mod is relatively easier than H2 lit, it may not be the best mod to take if you do not have a background in lit as the prof goes through the foundations extremely fast, and (one if my pet peeve of SoH) lectures are not recorded. It doesn’t help that the prof speaks extremely fast. However, not all texts are compulsory and tested (a saving grace).
If you did took H2 lit and got a decent score, I would recommend taking it just to smurf the class. I got an ez A for this mod. I enjoyed pycho way more than Emily of emerald hills (fun fact: this play is studied by some sec school for lit).

Assessments:
15% class part (just speak every tutorial, presentation)
15% short paper (one text, 700 words)
20% long paper (two texts, 1100 words)
50% finals (quote Id, short answer, 2 essays on endgame and foe)Grade: B+
Taught by prof Riordan. Lessons were online for most parts (mixed physical and online in the first half of sem and completely online in the second half). Texts were ok but Foe was boring ngl I didn’t even read the whole thing and had to write an essay during finals. Even though this is an introductory course to literature at the undergraduate level, don’t think you can bullshit your way through your essays and still get an awesome grade. Actually close read and write a clear thesis and you’re good to go. Finals didn’t go the way I’d like it to go (wrote mostly nonsense for both endgame and foe). In both essays I got Bs so it’s somewhat ironic that finals actually pulled my grade up??

Prof Hindley taught me this mod and it was quite easy to access. Online lectures and 1 hour of tutorial a week (covid sem). However, the content can be dry if one does mot jave interest in early english works, im talking first ever english work written, medieval english etc. Exam was okay, 2 sections, a short answer and a long essay and was given 24 hours to do and submit online.
