ML0004 CAREER & ENTREPRENEURIAL DEVELOPMENT FOR THE FUTURE WORLD (2.0 AU)

This course is a foundation module on essential career preparation skills and entrepreneurship. This course equips you with practical skills needed in your personal development and job search to help you succeed in a new disruptive workplace, basic appreciation of the key concepts of enterprise and gain practical insights on the relevance of enterprise and teamwork skills through working in team. This course is open to all NTU students and should be preferably completed by all students prior to their internship. In today’s competitive world, it is crucial that career preparation skills and entrepreneurial mindset are learnt early to ensure that competitive edge is sharpened with a heightened sense of workplace values and ethics.

    completely useless. The professor have no idea what he is teaching too.
    Heavy workload, solve “real life problem”? we are just being slaved by the company in exchange for 2AU.
    If you’re from NBS then good for you, should be easier for you

    all these works for 2AU? Triple it first then now we are talking.

    2022. Just started taking this module but it already seems like hell. It is frustrating. 2AU, graded, 60% teamwork, completely unrelated to my field of study. One has to understand that time is better invested into cores than this forced GERPE.

    If you’re not living under a rock, you won’t struggle with the content. VIPS and SODA are interesting, CAO and MLCPS seem very enamoured with these two frameworks, which okay la they’re uni administrators, can’t expect much from them. But I think you’d be better off speaking to coaches/attend webinars with Q&As etc. to building career skills & personal branding.

    Workload is fine, but start discussing the project (business idea report, 45% weightage) very early. Get to know your teammates’ interests, passions, strengths, etc. My teammates were blank slates and quite spineless – if necessary, invest time into sharing the point of entrepreneurship. You may even want to consider explicitly being team leader. I can’t emphasise this enough – create buy-in, convince yourself and your teammates of the problem statement & business idea. Effort you spend building a consensus will save so much time down the road.

    Speaking of entrepreneurship, spend some time to check some videos out on YouTube: Y Combinator talks (Peter Thiel, Paul Graham, Michael Seibel come to mind), Garry Tan (founder of tech-centric VC Initialized Capital), and loads of clips on emerging trends (jump to the end for a list). I don’t know if this will help everyone, but it definitely helped me before I started my own venture.

    Teaching was alright, activities are fun but it depends how much value-add lessons will provide for you. Definitely try to participate and network a little – you might find another team doing an idea you’d love to work on and, who knows, one team member might become a business partner or key connection in the future.

    Overall, okay module. Sucked for me personally because of teammates. Don’t expect too much, put in time at the beginning to get to know your teammates and set expectations/priorities, but otherwise don’t fall into the trap of overinvesting into the module.
