MS1016 THERMODYNAMICS OF MATERIALS (3.0 AU)

This course introduces thermodynamics at an introductory to intermediate level.
1. Concept of work, heat, enthalpy and entropy. Laws of thermodynamics
2. Concept of free energy and equilibrium. Solving thermodynamic problems with Maxwell’s equations.
3. Application of theories to single-component solutions, multi-component solutions and electrochemistry.

    This is a killer module and is what many described as the top 3 hardest module in MSE. It requires strong foundation in thermodynamics so one really has to keep up to speed and not lag behind during the semester and play catch up later on. Does not help that the lecturer is not really proficient in teaching and consultation are a must.
