While there were many profs taking this mod (like BS2002 microbio), the profs taking this mod were good with teaching and could explain concepts concisely and clearly. Prof Koh’s lectures were content heavy but she is really good at explaining. Prof Lu’s lectures are short and content is a little confusing in nature but he also teaches well, and he also releases his lecture script for students to read. Prof Tan’s lectures are really short, easy to understand and he really engages the students but the questions set by him in the finals were a killer. To score well for this mod, besides revising content, one should read bio papers and become familiar with understanding diagrams and figures, as there are questions based on these during finals. Time management is also important for both midterm and finals; this was the only mod I could not finish the papers on time in my 2 years in SBS. Doing PYP helps for this mod.

    20% Midterms
    20% Lab report
    60% Finals

This was my first paper with both MCQ and Structured Questions and my favourite mod content-wise BUT I really spent too little time on it / underestimated the module / was too complacent. I do not think I did that well for finals – this is the first time I couldn’t finish a paper on time and it isn’t really normal compared to my peers who did not face this problem. I didn’t even have time to check my MCQ answers fml. I did okay for midterms but it wasn’t fantastic. I hope my lab report can help pull my grade up. Sigh.

I enjoyed the lectures taught by the lecturers. They were all pretty good at conveying concepts. I really wish I had spent more time on this module though, ESPECIALLY towards finals period. Sighhhhh.

Things I should have improved on:
    – Going through PYP more thoroughly i.e. doing the structured questions as well in FULL for at least 1-2 papers so I can gauge my time better
    – Time management (see BS2003)

    Grade: Ok/Eh
